Communion

Apr 1, 2020    Danny Smith    Home Church Part 2 of 4, Acts 2

Hey everybody, I hope you're well.

I'm really excited about the new series we're doing called Home Church. Last week we covered Fellowship. Today we're going to talk about Communion, and we see both of these core tenets for the church in Acts 2.

I'm excited about what we're going to learn and the intentionality that we'll have as we take communion with our families.

I've noticed a lack of respect that I've had towards the power that comes from communion. It can be a beautiful, intimate exchange that we have with Jesus. We have to know Jesus doesn't need anything from us, but he does desire a relationship. Communion is a celebration of our relationship with Jesus, and until recently, I've really not taken advantage of this blessing.

I've thought about this sacred thing between Jesus and me, and this is a covenant relationship. It's actually a celebration of the New Covenant, and 1 Corinthians 11 says we are proclaiming this New Covenant.

Jesus loves to be in this covenant (agreement) with us, but it's also a very serious and sacred thing. There are repercussions if we don't take it seriously. Scripture mentions sickness, and even death, on those that take it without an understanding of its gravity.

The other thing I'm stricken with is the power that I have not taken in full authority. Communion is a declaration of the Lord's death until he comes, and we are declaring the blood of Jesus over our lives, situation, health, and our minds until he comes.

Then it says that the blood of the Lamb helps us to overcome the enemy. Revelations 12 says that the blood of the Lamb, and the word of our testimony, overcome Satan and his plans in trying to come against us. As we take communion, we stand and declare we have power through the blood of Jesus Christ. He redeemed us from our sins and healed us by His stripes. We are healed, and he wants to come and envelop us in his arms as we remember those things but also step-in and proclaim the power he's given to us through the sacrifice of his death.

This is such a beautiful thing and maybe something we aren't taking full advantage of. I wonder how do we do this just once or even twice a month?! We should be doing this every single day!

As we take his blood and body and say, "Satan, we are coming against you!" we are actually saying Jesus
has died, and his death has overcome! We are more than conquerors, and nothing that Satan does can come against us! We are proclaiming truth and thanking Jesus that he's sacrificed his life for us!

John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." You are loved, valued, and you have a purpose through Christ. His communion is a celebration, reminder, and declaration!

In this season, we should really be thinking about declaring health, life, and purpose over my body, my soul, my spirit. We should be doing this every day, and I think that's my challenge. Can we take this every day this week, making a declaration to overcome all that comes against us, in the name of Jesus, through the blood He shed?

It's such a powerful thing, and I hope that as we do this, as we take this together, as the church rises up, and we see little campfires of house churches go all around Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County, that we see the church rising up, proclaiming the death and blood of Jesus over our country, over our nation, over our families, over our health, life, and finances. Over everything that we have!

Jesus has called us to live as sons and daughters as heirs to a kingdom, so let's think about that as we proclaim his death until he comes!

Church, this is a very exciting season! As we take the intentionality of communion and do this together, everything is going to elevate. I want your lives to elevate and your walk with Christ to elevate.

I love you guys deeply, and I'm really excited for us to become the priests of our families.

See you!
